Rural Contemporary
The Design:
Following the installation of a Gym in the garden and an extension to the house,
the owners wanted a plan to re-vamp the planting and unify the whole garden.
The design separates the garden into distinct areas, partially screened from each other and connected by paths and walkways.
Drive:
A larger curvy new Drive was installed in the front garden so that cars can be parked away from the house. The gravel is on a stabilising foundation that prevents it from moving too much.
Terrace:
New steps lead down from the terrace to a lawn divided from the rest of the garden by a large border of shrubs, ornamental grasses, colourful perennials, alliums, tulips and clipped evergreens. A new level lawn reflects the shape of the existing terrace and provides a space for children to play. A chunky timber pergola, with climbing roses and clematis, leads through to the woodland area of the garden.
Swimming Pool:
The area around the new swimming pool was landscaped and screened by block planting of Miscanthus grasses and Hornbeam hedging.
There’s a seating area under a vine covered timber pergola.
Pond:
A pond was created near the Gym with an extended cantilevered deck, a lovely place to view the pond and anchors the new building into the garden.
Woodland:
The Woodland Area has seating in a grass-roofed Arbour, an oak-framed swing and a sculpted grass covered Landform that incorporates a slide.
The planting here reflects the informal nature of this part of the garden, it includes ornamental white brambles, foxgloves, ferns, hellebores and naturalising daffodils in the grass.
Vegetable Garden:
This part of the garden manages to be both attractive and practical
Raised vegetables beds for herbs and seasonal vegetables have been built and were very successful in their first year. There’s also a timber greenhouse, small shed and log-store. |
