Chic Country Garden

THE GARDEN THEN:

the mid 19th century house is the main property on a large country estate. The client had owned the house for a number of years, but it had recently been extensively remodeled into a contemporary space.

THE BRIEF:

The clients wanted a garden design to reflect the modern interior, a stylish entrance with lighting that enhanced the new features, somewhere to relax with friends, plants and flower borders with year round interest and a vegetable garden.

THE DESIGN:

Main Entrance:
The new design creates a stylish entrance to the property, the house is screened from the large car-parking area by smart, clipped Yew hedges. Steps up to the main door reveal broad stepping stones over a shallow water and pebble filled pool leading to the entrance. Lighting at night is both practical and increases the drama at night.

The Kitchen Garden: has a formal layout and is screened by a contemporary curved fence behind a row of clipped, standard olive trees.

The strong, clear structure of paths, raised beds and clipped, standard trees will contrast beautifully with the exuberant shapes and colours of vegetables.
Borders on two sides of the garden have a pleasing mix of structural and ornamental plants.
On a practical note, a small shed, log-store, compost bin and water butts were also an essential part of the design.
